We fully appreciate that survival is at stake for many businesses but eventually this crisis will abate, and so sales managers/leaders must live with the decisions they are making now or accept the medium and long-term consequences. That means more than simply keeping the machinery ticking-over. This is not a time for inertia and certainly not for commercial paralysis. It is rather a time for revitalization, renewal and revision. The sales manager/leader should think of themselves as a coach preparing a team of elite athletes for a major championship – we just don’t have the date confirmed yet. Maintaining them at peak performance levels will ensure that they will be ready to go, once the sun comes out again. It takes courage to accept that that the normality we got used to post COVID-19 will never return. We are going to re-emerge into a brave new sales world and we must be ready.
